Son of police captain pleads guilty to charges stemming from incident outside Pacific Beach eatery

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The 23-year-old son of a San Diego police captain pleaded guilty Monday to assaulting three women and vandalizing a vehicle outside a Pacific Beach taco shop.

Alex Guaderrama of Alpine was immediately sentenced to three years probation and ordered to refrain from using alcohol and drugs without a valid prescription.

He was also ordered to continue wearing a alcohol-monitoring device for six months and to complete 50 days of public work service, had his driver's license suspended for 30 days and was instructed to stay away from the victims in the case.

The defendant pleaded guilty to assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, two counts of battery and one count of vandalism -- all misdemeanors.

Guaderrama, the son of San Diego police Capt. Manny Guaderrama, was charged last October in connection with the Aug. 21 altercation in the 1100 block of Garnet Avenue.

About 1 that morning, Guaderrama grabbed two young women while waiting in line at a sidewalk Mexican restaurant and hit a friend of theirs in the face when she protested, police said. Guaderrama then broke out the window of a nearby parked car, slashing his hand in the process, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Andra Brown said.

Officers responding to the ruckus detained Guaderrama -- whose blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.17 percent, more than twice the legal limit for driving -- and took him to a hospital. After being treated for his wound, Guaderrama was released on his own recognizance to his mother.
