U.S. Marshal causes school lockdown scare on Coronado
CORONADO (CBS 8) - Schools on Coronado went into lockdown Tuesday after word of a gunman on the loose.
It started around 9 a.m. Tuesday, when police received reports that a man was walking around with a rifle in the 500 block of E Avenue. Schools in the area were immediately put on alert as officers moved in.
"I imagine that anything going on out of the ordinary, they'd be right on it," witness Joe Simpson said.
Officers found their man, but he turned out to be a U.S. Marshal who was apparently in Coronado looking for a fugitive.
The lockdown was lifted after an apology from the Marshals Office.
