SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - There was a big welcome home Monday for 220 Miramar-based Marines returning from a year-long tour in Afghanistan.
This is reportedly the biggest homecoming at MCAS Miramar so far this year.
The Marines served as the aviation combat element for southern Afghanistan. Their mission was dangerous, and the long time away from home makes coming home to loved ones all the better.
"I've got one Marine that's been gone just over a year, the rest of us are within a couple of days of being gone for a whole year and I tell ya what, we're really happy to be home," Maj. Gen. Greg Sturdevant said.
