EL CAJON (CNS / CBS 8) - An investigation is underway Wednesday and witnesses are sought in connection to a traffic accident in El Cajon in which a 70-year-old man was fatally struck by a motorist who continued driving but reported the accident a short time later, police said.
The man was struck while attempting to cross the road near Avocado Avenue and Carter Street shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to El Cajon police. He died at the scene.
The man was struck by a Toyota Camry traveling south on Avocado Avenue, Lt. Frank La Haye said in a statement.
An adult was behind the wheel of the Camry and drove home following the accident, La Haye said, noting the driver called police a short time later, with a translator's help.
"It is unclear at this point in the investigation, if speed or weather conditions are contributing factors to this collision," La Haye said. "Alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this time."
Anyone with information about this accident is asked to call the El Cajon Police Department.
