SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County health officials warned people to stay out of the ocean Wednesday because of polluted runoff in the surf zone, especially near creeks and storm drains.
Because urban runoff may contain bacteria from a variety of sources such as animal waste, soil and decomposing vegetation, the county's Department of Environmental Health advised people to stay out of the water for at least 72 hours after the rain stops falling.
Many storm drains are marked with permanent white metal signs, but no other warning signs would be posted.
