LAKESIDE (CBS 8) - A seven-year-old girl in Lakeside is being called a hero for actions during a house fire.

Victoria Mulvaney explains what she did after a fire started in the room where she was sleeping with her two-year old sister.

"I tried to get my sister to wake up, but she wouldn't. And then I felt the door and then it wasn't hot, so I called for my mom and I screamed," said the seven-year-old.

Victoria's quick-thinking saved the lives of her sister, her pregnant mother and her boyfriend, who were able to escape the burning house.

The cause is under investigation.

LAKESIDE (CBS 8) - A local family woke up to a frightening scene Friday, as a fire erupted inside a little girl's bedroom.

The blaze began around 3:30 a.m. at a home on the 10000 block of River Street near Lake Shore Drive in Lakeside.

The fire reportedly started in a back bedroom of the home. A girl says she saw the flames, and grabbed her baby sister before running out of the room.

A pregnant woman in the home was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

A pitbull died inside the house. The other dogs made it out safely.

The Red Cross is helping the family.

A space heater is believed to be the cause of the fire.
