CORONADO (CBS 8) - The Navy is preparing for the worst.
A large-scale anti-terror drill is being held Wednesday. Terror drills are being held at bases across the country.
At the amphibious base in Coronado, pretend terrorists have stormed the gate, shot passers-by and have taken hostages in a building.
A mock standoff is unfolding, and members of the FBI, the Coronado Police Department and the medical examiner's office are involved.
"Practicing and seeing things we need to improve on in a training environment is much better than doing it in a real world event," Naval Base Coronado security officer Matthew Anderson said.
Participants are using fake blood and fake guns to imitate a real threat.
Each Navy base is staging a different style of terrorist attack to practice different anti-terror methods.
