CAMP PENDLETON (CBS 8) - For the next few days, more than 250 wounded warriors will show off their athletic skills during the Marine Corps Trials at Camp Pendleton.
Opening ceremonies were held Thursday for the military sporting event, which runs from March 1 through March 6.
Wounded warriors will compete in numerous events, including wheelchair basketball, track and field and swimming. The trials are also designed to boost morale and confidence.
"We are here to build camaraderie, to help Marines get back to the state of mind that they have something left to live for and the rest of their lives is left," Capt. Nathan Jeffcoat said.
At the end of the trials, 50 Marines will be selected to represent the Marine Corps at the 2013 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs in May.
