ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A piece of metal debris crashed through the windshield of a southbound SUV on a North County freeway Friday, leaving the driver with apparently minor injuries, authorities reported.

It happened about 9:40 a.m. on Interstate 15 near Felicita Road in Escondido, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the damaged white Toyota 4Runner was able to pull over and make an emergency call.

Medics took the victim, whose identity was not released, to a hospital for treatment of what appeared to be superficial injuries, CHP public affairs Officer Tommy Doerr said.

The origin of the debris was unknown, according to Doerr.
