SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Latino Youth Council has launched a program to distribute 10,000 reusable shopping bags with a message to prevent underage drinking.
The bags will be passed out in City Heights and feature captions directed at parents in English and Spanish, asking them not to provide alcohol to minors.
The youth council got the idea to target parents after participating in an alcohol enforcement exercise at a local market.
"We would go to a local store and then we would ask people if they would buy alcohol for us and then, out of the 11 people, 4 said yes and they were parents," Angelica Esparza said.
The group teamed up with Councilwoman Marti Emerald and the owner of Murphy's Market to produce the bags.
