SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man and his wife grappled for a handgun during a fight Saturday night, and he was shot in the chest and died, police said.
The husband and wife began fighting shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the 5400 block of Adobe Falls Road near Waring Road, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford. It was unclear what sparked the altercation.
Police Lt. Ernie Herbert said the preliminary investigation revealed an argument between the 28-year-old victim and the 29-year-old woman escalated into a physical fight, and the two struggled over a handgun.
During the struggle the man was shot in the chest, Herbert said.
Officers arrived to find the wounded man lying on the bedroom floor, and paramedics took him to a hospital in critical condition, according to police Lt. Ernie Herbert.
The police department's Domestic Violence Unit was initially dispatched, but the investigation was turned over to homicide detectives when the injuries appeared terminal, Herbert said. He died about 8:45 a.m. Sunday, the lieutenant said.
Police refused to immediately release the suspect's name, but she was arrested and Herbert said she would be booked into Los Colinas Detention Facility. The man's name was also not released.
Detectives and forensic specialists were processing the scene for evidence and interviewing witnesses, Herbert said.
