SAN DIEGO (CNS) - No charges were filed Wednesday against an aspiring lawyer accused of fatally shooting her U.S. Army veteran boyfriend as they fought for control of a handgun during an argument in a Del Cerro condominium.
The case against Meghan Elizabeth Fletcher, 29, remains under review, said Steve Walker of the District Attorney's Office.
The couple began fighting shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the 5400 block of Adobe Falls Road near Waring Road, according to San Diego police. It was unclear what sparked the altercation.
Homicide Lt. Ernie Herbert said the preliminary investigation revealed an argument between the victim and the defendant escalated into a physical fight, and the two struggled over a handgun.
During the struggle, Black was shot once in the chest and died at 8:45 a.m. the next day, Herbert said.
According to a neighbor, the couple had been drinking and fighting for about 45 minutes before the gunfire rang out. Sartuche said that after the gunfire, she overheard the defendant say, "No, no, please come on."
Black worked as a civilian contractor in Afghanistan since retiring from the Army in 2009. A friend of the victim said that Black had returned to San Diego from Afghanistan on March 14.
