SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It is Good Friday and thousands of believers are celebrating with a commemorative walk through downtown.
The procession started at 8:30 a.m. and has been stopping at various 'stations' to symbolize Jesus' journey to Calvary.
Participants say the annual event is an opportunity to demonstrate reverence and faith ahead of the Easter holiday.
"True compassion is to walk with the people... Christ is with us every step of the way... It's all about celebrating his passion in these three days leading up to Easter," said Fr. Jay Bananal of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
The walk ends at the San Diego Rescue Mission.
