ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A 17-year-old boy was seriously wounded by gunshot wounds to his torso in Escondido, a police captain said Sunday.

The shooting was reported at about 9 p.m. Saturday, in the area of Gamble Street and Lincoln Avenue, said Escondido police Capt. Michael Loarie.

The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment and his condition was reported as serious but stable, Loarie said.

"The motive for the shooting is not clear at this time," he said. Escondido police are checking the area for witnesses and evidence.

The area around the shooting was closed to traffic during the investigation, Loarie said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective Hurley at (760) 839-4738.
