SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A suspect is in custody Wednesday morning after a chaotic chase through Lemon Grove.

The chase started around 11 p.m. Tuesday on SR 94 near downtown San Diego and ended in Lemon Grove. Once off the highway, the suspect drove in circles and lead police down Broadway to Palm and then back to Lemon Grove Avenue.

Police placed spike strips in the road which stopped the suspect who was then arrested and put in a patrol car. After that, he tried to kick out the windows. Police removed the suspect from the car at which time he tried kicking one of the officers, all of which prompted police to hogtie and pepper spray him.

The suspect has been taken to the downtown jail and treated for pepper spray. He will face several charges, including evading officers and driving under the influence.
