NATIONAL CITY (CNS) - Authorities asked the public Wednesday for help in finding two brothers who allegedly gunned down an acquaintance at a South Bay shopping center.
Henry Paul Castro, 49, and 48-year-old Manuel Joseph Castro are wanted on suspicion of murder in the death of Jesus Pena, 43, according to police.
Patrol officers responding to numerous 911 calls about gunfire early on the evening of March 23 found Pena mortally wounded in a parking lot in the 1500 block of Sweetwater Road in National City. Medics took the victim to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The assailants fled the scene of the shooting in a white-and-orange older-model pickup truck. Police found the vehicle abandoned this week and impounded it as evidence, Sgt. Matt Smith said.
The sergeant declined to discuss what might have motivated the slaying or how the victim and suspects knew each other, citing concerns about compromising the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with any information about the case was asked to call NCPD communications at (619) 336-4411, ext. 0.
