SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - New statistics released by the National Marine Mammal Foundation shows the number of starving sea lion pups washing up along Southern California beaches continues to grow.
According to the foundation, more than 1,300 sea lions have been stranded since January 1. That has created an urgent need to rehabilitate these animals.
To that end, the San Diego-based Waitt Foundation has donated $45,000 to the National Marine Mammal Foundation to help nurse the stranded sea lions back to health.
It's still not known what's causing the problem.
