SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The company was very special Thursday at the San Diego County YWCA's big fundraiser "In the Company of Women."
Oscar nominee and star of "The Help" Viola Davis shared her story, coming from a home marked by domestic violence and rising to new heights.
Money raised goes to YWCA programs helping domestic violence victims, and to build awareness about the problem.
"More people are recognizing how deadly domestic violence can be and how serious it is, and how they as family members and friends can make a difference in someone's life with someone who is actually going through domestic violence," YWCA San Diego CEO Heather Finlay said.
The YWCA also handed out its TWIN Awards, or Tribute to Women and Industry. One of the honorees was KFMB-TV owner Elisabeth Kimmel, who received the Humanitarian Award recognizing her service to our community.
