SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell Friday for the 17th consecutive day, dropping four-tenths of a cent to $3.873, its lowest amount since Jan. 31.

The average price has dropped 11 cents over the past 17 days, including a half-cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 2.3 cents less than one week ago, 18.9 cents lower than last month and 31.3 cents below what it was one year ago.

"Day-to-day wholesale gas prices are still at a point that should create continued prices decreases at the pump," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"For the first time since at least the year 2000, Southern California gas prices dropped more often in March and April than they rose, but the price for that was the big spike in February."
