Robbery at recycling center in Mission Hills

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three thieves robbed a Mission Hills recycling center Monday, with one of them wielding a gun and possibly firing shots during the heist.

No injuries resulted from the late-morning holdup in the 2100 block of Hancock Street, according to San Diego police.

The robbers, men in their late 20s or early 30s in blue jeans and dark hooded sweat shirts, confronted employees about 10:15 a.m. and stole a wallet from one of them before fleeing in a small silver or gray SUV, possibly a Honda CR-V.

Officers were trying to confirm a witness report that one of the bandits fired a gun during the crime.

"We had an initial call that shots were fired inside," SDPD Lt. Mike Hastings said. "However, we're still trying to corroborate that, and the reason that we're trying to corroborate is because it's a recycling center with a lot of loud noises inside."
