SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A robbery suspect shot by a security guard during a failed bank heist in University City was recovering in a trauma center Wednesday, while an alleged accomplice was in custody at a women's jail in Santee.

Casey Allen Wilson, 27, suffered gunshot wounds to the back and face during the failed robbery attempt at a Wells Fargo office in the 8400 block of Genesee Avenue late Tuesday afternoon, according to San Diego police.

After the security officer opened fire on him at about 5 p.m., Wilson ran out of the bank and got into a bluish-green Honda sedan driven by an accessory, who sped off, SDPD Detective Gary Hassen said. The getaway driver dropped the wounded suspect off at Sharp Memorial Hospital in Serra Mesa and then fled.

Wilson's condition and prognosis were unavailable Wednesday afternoon.

Following the gunfire, the guard detained 42-year-old Laura Joyce Elshire, who allegedly had taken part in the robbery attempt along with Wilson. Elshire was treated for minor injuries and booked into the Las Colinas Detention Facility, where she was being held on $105,000 bail.

The third alleged perpetrator was not captured.
