SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - In East Country, eighth grade students from Los Coches Creek Middle School ended their school year on a sky-high note Monday.
About 240 students from the El Cajon school took their homemade kites to Mission Bay Park and let them fly. The students made the kites in their English classes.
Teachers say the kite project is a great way for kids to be creative and let off a little steam at the end of the school year.
"The kids are so used to learning with books and with some rote behaviors in the classroom that we decided to see if they could learn through experience and through connection with each other," teacher William Roemmich said.
The students will graduate to high school on Thursday.
