County opens Cool Zones to beat summer heat

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Just in time for the first day of summer, San Diego County has kicked off its annual Cool Zones program.

Seniors can beat the heat at more than 100 designated air-conditioned places throughout the county.

County officials say the Cool Zones help keep seniors, who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses, healthy. They also have an added social benefit.

"Another byproduct of staying cool, being able to have a Cool Zone to go to when it's hot is you get out meet people, you get to socialize," County Supervisor Dianne Jacob said.
