SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Once again, residents of San Diego showed their generosity and concern for our wounded military heroes.

AM 760's annual Warrior Foundation Radiothon kicked off Friday morning with "Armstrong & Getty" and the "Give Me 5" campaign. Listeners were asked to give $5 a week to help bring our injured military personnel home for the holidays.

Jack Armstrong and Joe Getty visited Freedom Station to meet with some of the troops.

"The more you know about what freedom station does, the more enthusiastic you become," Getty said Friday morning.

Volunteers worked the phones all morning, collecting $257,528, including major donations from a variety of San Diego businesses.

AM 760's Mike Slater hosted the second half of the Radiothon and appeared in the live coverage on CBS News 8.

"We're going to send 500 service members home for Christmas, said Slater. "So many memories are going to be made this year--and you made it entirely possible."
