SAN DIEGO (CNS/CBS 8) - A shooting in a residential neighborhood in Point Loma Heights left a man seriously wounded and two men in custody Monday, authorities reported.
A man made an emergency call shortly after 3:30 p.m. to report that his brother had just been shot in the chest in the 3800 block of Nipoma Place, according to San Diego police.
Medics took the victim with initially life-threatening injuries to UCSD Medical Center. Authorities Monday evening said the man is expected to survive.
Witnesses reported seeing three possible suspects ditch an SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, on a nearby roadside shortly after the shooting, then jump out and run off, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Kevin Mayer said.
Police fanned out through the area and detained two men in the 3500 block of Browning Street, about a mile south of the site of the shooting, about 4 p.m. Monday.
It was unclear what might have prompted the gunfire.
