Mayor-elect trying to manage SDPD scandal

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The mayor-elect is diving in headfirst, trying to manage a major sex scandal sweeping the San Diego Police Department while determining how much it's going to cost the city.

Friday, Kevin Faulconer met with Police chief William Lansdowne.

Faulconer said the two of them agreed that the most important thing to do is restore the public's opinion of the police department after multiple allegations that officers sexually assaulted women.

An attorney CBS News 8 spoke to estimated that if there is proof the department knew about the allegations before they went public it could be facing millions of dollars in settlements.
