SAN MARCOS (CNS) - A 15-year-old boy with ties to a street gang was in Juvenile Hall Tuesday, accused of committing 90 acts of graffiti that caused about $24,000 in damage in Vista and the San Elijo area of San Marcos, authorities said.
The boy, arrested Friday, was linked to the crimes using a Graffiti Tracker software program that analyzes photos of individual graffiti markings to find links to other similar acts, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Matt Blumenthal.
In this instance, the boy used a black marker and repeatedly under the monikers "Smilez," "Smiles" and "Smile," the sergeant said.
Total damage was estimated at almost $24,000, Blumenthal said.
