SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - One of the candidates running against District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis is asking her to release records related to the prosecution of a former Chula Vista city councilman.
Robert Brewer joined with former city councilwoman Donna Frye to ask Dumanis for information regarding the case against Steve Castaneda.
Brewer claims Dumanis' investigation of Castaneda was tainted by a conflict of interest involving her support of another candidate for the Chula Vista city council.
"It's reasonable for the public to expect that the DA's prosecutorial decision will not be affected by politics,” said Frye.
Dumanis' office responded to Brewer and Frye's statements, saying the district attorney won't be rushed to release the documents before they are properly reviewed, saying that would be putting politics over public safety.
