SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A College Avenue Wal-Mart store became a crime scene after police say a man fired three shots inside the store Tuesday night.
Chaos erupted as a man robbed the Wal-Mart and held a cashier at gunpoint around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday in the 3400 block of College Avenue.
The gunman pulled the trigger of a handgun, firing three shots. The shots hit the ceiling twice and possibly a window. Police say the man then took bags filled with money that had just been collected from the store's cash registers and fled into the parking lot.
Customers and workers were left in shock.
"Second shot got fired and I was like oh dang. Everyone ran through the back. We went around the corner. Shots were at the register. It's my first time experiencing this," said witness Genesis Talaban.
"Very, very brazen and very dangerous. A lot of clerks and customers inside. We know he fired two rounds or more," explained Lt. Paul Phillips with the San Diego Police Department.
Witnesses say the robber was a heavy set black man wearing a black shirt and jeans. He reportedly jumped into a Silver Mustang and police say us he took off and headed onto SR-94 Freeway. Detectives are now reviewing surveillance video, as part of their investigation.
Police say this is the second time this Walmart was targeted. Last November, police say a black man wearing all black fired a shot into the ceiling. Demanding cash from the register with no regard for public safety.
In both incidents, no injuries were reported.
