LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The North American Aerospace Defense Command scrambled F-15 fighter jets to intercept two aircraft that violated restricted airspace during President Barack Obama's visit to Los Angeles, officials said Thursday.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to NORAD, which reported that the general aviation aircraft were "out of communications."

Air Force Master Sgt. Chuck Marsh, a spokesman for North American Aerospace Defense Command, says a small private plane and a private helicopter were spotted in the no-fly zone around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and authorities couldn't immediately make contact with the pilots.

"Once the aircraft were intercepted and had departed the Temporary Flight Restricted Zone, they landed at regional airports and were investigated by local law enforcement," according to a NORAD statement.

California Air National Guard F-15s eventually escorted the aircraft out of the restricted area. One landed at McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad and the other at Agua Dulce Airport.

Authorities say no planes violated restrictions during the president's Thursday visits in the Los Angeles area.
