EL CAJON (CNS) - Authorities Friday released the name of a 28-year-old Escondido man who died when he crashed his car while being pursued by police in El Cajon last week.

Derrell Eugene Love died in the 1300 block of East Madison Avenue at 3:25 a.m. April 29, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The pursuit began when an officer attempted to pull Love over because his vehicle was missing a front license plate, the M.E.'s Office reported, adding that Love took off at a high rate of speed rather than yield to the officer.

After a short distance, Love lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a parked vehicle along the street, ejecting him from his vehicle. He died at the scene from blunt force trauma to his head and torso, the M.E.'s Office reported.
