WASHINGTON, June 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society of Wine Educators is pleased to announce the appointment of Edward Korry, MA, CHE, CSS, CWE, as the new President of the Society, as of June 1, 2014.

Professor Korry is the Chair of the Beverage and Dining Service Department at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI.  With industry experience, he began to work at JWU as the Food & Beverage Director for several of the University's practicum properties. He joined the faculty in 1983, led the creation of its beverage programs and currently teaches wine courses.

Educated at the University of Chicago, Professor Korry earned the Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS) and Certified Wine Educator (CWE) through SWE, and is also a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE).  He has served on the Board of Directors of SWE for 8 years, contributing to the creation and development of the Beverage Specialist Program.

Professor Korry's many other certifications and memberships include the executive committee of the US Bartenders' Guild Master Accreditation Program; Maitre de Table Restaurateur and Echanson Provincial of La Chaine des Rotisseurs; certified Bordeaux Wine Educator; and Formador Homologado del Vino de Jerez.

"It is an exceptional honor and opportunity for me to lead the Society of Wine Educators," commented Professor Korry. "The Society has become increasingly relevant in the recent past, with free webinars, online prep courses and exam advice, the quickest turn-around time on exams, with the convenience of Pearson test sites, and constantly updated, comprehensive study guides and workbooks. My objectives include developing new certifications; getting the accreditation for Continuing Education units for our offerings, and continuing to add online resources for members."  In addition to SWE's unsurpassed 3-day Annual Conference, with over 50 sessions, plans have already been implemented to add one-day mini-conferences worldwide.

Professor Korry brings unbridled enthusiasm and a clear vision for the future of the SWE: "Our certifications enhance the careers of people in all aspects of the beverage industry, giving them a practical background and a respected, recognized level of knowledge. I am excited about helping to realize our goal of making the Society of Wine Educators a pre-eminent educational society for wine and spirits for the beverage and hospitality industries worldwide."
