CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - The transfer of undocumented migrants from Texas to San Diego has stopped. A flight scheduled to come in Thursday was canceled, and now the Border Patrol says all future flights have been suspended.
Ken Lester, 82, says even though the immigration flights from Texas to San Diego have been suspended, this fight is far from over.
"The first word that comes to my mind is politics, so for whatever reason politically, there are no buses here today," he said.
Since last week, three flights landed in the San Diego area, filled mostly with undocumented migrants from Central America.
Governor Rick Perry says Texas is overwhelmed by the crisis, and he challenged President Obama to visit the border and view the problem first hand. President Obama is asking Congress for $3.8 billion dollars to confront the tens of thousands of migrants that keep showing up.
As for Ken Lester, he's a Minuteman who patrols the borders at night. He says his phone calls to Border Patrol agents have led to the deportation of more than 300 undocumented migrants. Lester says the San Diego sector has done a wonderful job protecting the border. So why should this region receive migrants from Texas?
"It's not the people I'm against. It's that they're illegal here, that's what I'm against," he said.
Lester says he's crying for his country symbolically with tattooed tears. The first tear came nine years ago. The second, when President Obama was re-elected.
"It was not going well for my country. My country's going down the drain, so to speak," he said.
