EL CAJON (CBS 8) – The San Diego County Crime Commission honored senior volunteers Thursday who work with the local police and sheriff's departments.
Thirteen volunteers were recognized for making their communities a safer place to live.
Barbara Boren received an award for her work with the El Cajon Police Department. She says being a volunteer is the perfect thing for older people who are looking for a good way to have an impact in their community.
"It keeps your mind going, it's very rewarding because you're helping people. And if you like people, talking to people, this is a big chance for you," she said.
This is the sixth year the commission has recognized volunteer patrol members.
