SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Residents in Campo are railing against a state-proposed plan to house a sexually violent predator in their community and are expected to speak out during a public hearing Wednesday morning.

Vanessa Walker and her three young children live just two homes down from 1138 Custer Road, where state officials have suggested placing 58-year-old Allen Fields, a sexually violent predator and diagnosed pedophile. Fields was convicted in the early 1980s of sexually abusing four boys, ages 10 to 13, as either their caregiver or their Boy Scout leader.

"Everyone I talk with is upset about it," Walker told CBS News 8. "We all have young children or know people with young children. It is very unsettling."

After serving 25 years in state prison, Fields was moved to a state mental hospital, where he voluntarily submitted to surgical castration.

Earlier, County Supervisor Dianne Jacob blasted this proposal.

"Here we go again," Jacob wrote in an email. "The state is trying to unload yet another monster on a peaceful community. Although this convicted pedophile may have been castrated, residents lose serious quality of life when one of these predators is dumped in our communities."

The public hearing on this plan to house Allen Fields in Campo will take place Wednesday, July 23 at 9 a.m. in Department. 35 of the Superior Court of San Diego.
