SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Grief counselors will be on hand for the first day of school at Pomerado Elementary Wednesday, following the death of an eight-year-old girl who died in a tragic accident at Yellowstone National Park.

A growing memorial can be seen at the school with balloons, teddy bears and posters that read: "Rest in Peace Zahra, we will miss you."

Zahra Allahyari was with her family when she slipped during a hike and fell during summer vacation.

District officials say she was about to start fourth grade and she was bright, compassionate and had a promising future.

Counselors will be at Pomerado Elementary School Wednesday and available to staff, students and family members who may be traumatized.

Sunday morning, Zahra made her way down a trail at Yellowstone National Park, lost her footing and fell about 550 feet. Park officials say she was walking on the brink of the Lower Falls where there are railings and caution signs.

A grief psychiatrist says because of social media even young children may be impacted more quickly by this incident.

There have been three deaths at Yellowstone National Park this summer, including Zahra.

The District says she had two siblings at the school.

Counselors will be on hand through next week to help ease the pain.

A moment of silence was held in her honor Tuesday night at the Poway Unified board meeting.
