SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Hundreds of navy families are reunited with their sailors, as the USS Pinckney and USS Kidd return to San Diego. The destroyers arrived Thursday morning.
They took part in the search for the missing Malaysia airliner that disappeared in March. Both ships sent helicopters and crewmembers in the search.
The plane and the 239 people on board were never found.
"Tragic, but we're glad we were able to assist in the effort although it's still unresolved. Hopefully some measure of closure will come to those affected," said Commanding Officer Frank Okata with the USS Pinckney.
The Pinckney and the USS Kidd are returning after seven months.
